The Detox Diet

For me, It all began with a simple detox diet. I was at a low point in life and on a small vacation when I read the first half of the book “The Swiss Secret to Optimal Health” by Dr. Thomas Rau. I read everything up to the detox diet plan, and then it was time to go home. It had piqued my curiosity, and I was especially impresses with the co-author’s experience of doing the detox, especially the part about having more energy. I copied the diet down and when I got home I tried it out for two weeks.

Those two weeks shifted the course of my entire life! It opened my eyes up to what life could be like!!! I had never even had a clue!! Here are some of the things that happened to me once the effects of the diet started kicking in (around day 10):

1. I slept way better and needed less sleep–about 7 hours instead of 9 or 9.5. I fell asleep very easily and slept really well throughout the night. I also woke up very easily in the morning, and was full of energy immediately. (Normally, back then, I was dragging myself out of bed after the kids were already up.) I even started waking up before my alarm went off-usually between 5:30 and 6, just because my body didn’t need any more sleep. (Now, is that awesome or what!!)

2. My depression went completely away. I felt happy and cheerful, and the negative emotional factor was out of everything. I never felt upset, annoyed, irritated, offended, etc. This was probably my favorite part of it all. (And can you just imagine how this affected my marriage?! It was awesome!! 🙂 )

3. I started my period in the middle of the detox diet, and I had no pms symptoms at all. Woohoo! 🙂

4. I had more energy than I ever thought possible in my adult life! I accomplished tons! It takes a lot of time to prepare and eat all those vegetables, but I more than made up for it in everything that I got done. It is forever etched in my memory: running laundry up and down the three levels in our house, laughing and being silly with my two year old, who was riding on my shoulders, and thinking to myself, “I can’t believe I am doing this!! I love this!! I have never felt so good in my life!”

5. My back pain went away. I had been telling my husband for several months that we needed to buy a new mattress because my back hurt so bad. But in doing the detox diet, it all went completely away.

6. I could think and see things clearer than before. It was easy to handle whatever came my way and not feel stressed or overwhelmed. I had wonderful clarity of mind. It felt like my whole life slowed down and I could enjoy every little moment—tucking the kids into bed, giving them hugs and kisses, reading books together, doing dishes with the kids and letting them make a mess with the bubbles-whatever it was, in the moment. It filled me with such joy and gratitude!!

7. I had emotional issues disappear–things I didn’t even know were there, but realized afterwards that I didn’t feel that way anymore. Several things just cleared up, without me even trying or doing anything about it. Negative experiences in my past had been distorting the way I viewed reality and the way I felt about certain things—without my even realizing what was going on until they were gone and then I had something to compare with. I still continue to feel the good effects from this. It is great! (This is part of what energy work can do!)

8. I felt a level of wellness that I didn’t even know existed-I thought I was healthy before, because I rarely got sick and never needed to go see a doctor. But really, it was just the absence of illness. On the diet, I felt a fullness of health, TRUE health.
